IAFC 2012 – Puttin’ on the Ritz in Aquatics
May 15-19, 2012
Wyndham Orlando Resort
Celebrating 25 years of IAFC!
Will you be attending the biggest aquatic fitness event ever?
25 REASONS FOR ATTENDING IAFC 2012
The 25th IAFC kicks off on MONDAY this year with an afternoon/evening welcome session that features the finalists of the AEA Cool Pool talent search and a wild aqua entertainment revue. The all new Cool Pool Performances will include snacks and a cash bar. (A small entry fee will be required.)
IAFC is the one stop shop for loading up on new concepts and choreography. Over 135 regular conference sessions highlight the world’s most diverse selection of aquatic fitness programming.
Speaking of one stop shops, an IAFC registration loads you up on all of your required CECs for AEA certification renewal. CECs for ACE, AFAA, ATRI and BOC are also offered for many sessions!
Deep and shallow are getting married at IAFC 2012! Some of the hottest presenters will be teaming up for sessions that feature routines done simultaneously in deep and shallow water.
AEA sponsors and affiliates are back with product showcases. These sessions are designed to feature the industry’s hottest selling equipment and programming.
Oh yeah, did we mention shopping? The IAFC Expo Hall will be chock full of vendors selling the latest aquatic fitness products, clothing, equipment, music, DVDs and more.
Meet the world at this truly global conference! AEA has members in over 40 countries and many of those countries will be represented with attendees, as well as international superstar presenters.
IAFC exclusive Dry Dock sessions led by top notch presenters bring aquatic fitness concepts inside for greater comprehension of the purpose behind the moves.
Why wait to win a cool prize? At IAFC 2012, you can bid on your favorite item. A Chinese auction will be set up in the Expo Hall featuring coveted sponsor and affiliate giveaways.
Yeah, yeah, yeah…we always talk about fun & friends in the Orlando sunshine, but don’t forget to check out some awesome local attractions, including the wildly popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort.
Get out of your swim suit and into some glam duds because we are Puttin’ on the Ritz in Aquatics and celebrating IAFC’s Silver Anniversary with a semi-formal dinner and dance. And yes, of course we will recognize the red carpet dynamos.
At IAFC, we’ve done breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack breaks, but we have never done brunch. That is going to change. What does Angie have planned for the brunch (breakfast/lunch) menu?
The AEA Global Awards Ceremony will be held Friday evening during the dinner reception and before the DJ takes over the show. Find out who is making waves in the industry.
Dr. Len Kravitz is back and tackling stress, cortisol, obesity, diabetes, eccentric exercise and more. And nobody can make those topics as fascinating as Len.
Greg and Evelyn Keyes are returning from Down Under to the IAFC schedule and bringing with them a boatload of entertainment, education and probably a few surprises.
It’s not a workout, it’s a party! The Zumba team is back with high octave master classes, Aqua Zumba, Jump Start Gold and more. Yes, the famous Maria Browning will be leading some sessions as well.
Craig Stuart is loving Pilates and taking it to the water. Join Craig and his Pilates instructor, Marilyn Hinson, as they debut their “land meets water” creation with a special pre-con, Aqua Pilates Fusion.
Go beyond choreography and discover the purpose behind the moves with several exclusive IAFC science and research sessions, including the four hour Wednesday evening specialty course, Theory to Practice 2012.
Cooking sessions at IAFC? What will Angie think up next? Select courses will be offered on cooking up, easy preparation healthy snacks, smoothies, salads and more.
USA Swimming continues to increase their presence and influence by building and strengthening facilities and this year they are offering two programs, Saving Pools, Saving Lives and their Build a Pool conference.
De-stress and breathe! We all need an Ai Chi fix. Ruth Sova and Jun Konno are back with their popular Ai Chi program. If you have been looking to get certified in Ai Chi, this is your opportunity. Now more than ever, Ai Chi is a must for so many professionals and the clients we serve!
Can’t get enough of the choreography? Pauline Ivens, Julie See, Silvia Senati, Karen Westfall and many others are back with their latest deep and shallow choreography.
Just to name a few…Ian Levia has got Aqua Swag, Marti (Boutin) Peters is hosting Boot Camp Splash, MaryBeth Marotto is back with YOQUA IV and Mimi Rodriquez Adami will be dazzling the deck with It’s Showtime 3.
It is not only IAFC’s 25th Anniversary, but four ladies are also celebrating their 25th year working for AEA! Can you guess who they are? Here are some hints: One’s really mouthy and sometimes just plain scary, one’s very polite and always smiling (Angie calls it a fake smile), one’s a science geek (Angie’s term) and one’s got that big state drawl and likes to wear bathing suits in the snow! Hmmm……
The must-see session of IAFC 2012 will likely be The Aqua Musketeers. Three popular international male presenters come together for a spectacular showcase of aqua power. Can you guess who they are?
The IAFC finale is always a high energy splash fest - exciting the crowd into an aquatic frenzy. But please…someone needs to tell Julie See to take her cell phone out of her pocket before jumping into the pool this year!
May 14-19. We are Puttin’ on the Ritz in Aquatics.
IAFC Brochure and registration details are coming soon - keep checking the IAFC webpage!

AEA Website Gets Facelift
When you look good you feel good! The AEA website is about to look a lot better and you will feel better when you are surfing around it. Web designers are putting the finishing touches on the new look as I type this. The changes to the homepage were designed to make the overall website more user-friendly and easier to navigate. More and more people are visiting the site thanks to the very popular online education and the newly spruced up Members Only area. Have fun surfing and let us know what you think.

AEA E-News Goes Monthly
The news you need to know will be coming on a more frequent basis. AEA E-News is slated to be released on a monthly basis in 2012, as opposed to a bi-monthly release. The 2012 E-News will be short, sweet and to the point (I hope). There seems to be lots going on at AEA these days and this electronic newsletter is an effective way for announcing all that is new and important to members.
So now instead of dealing with Mark’s procrastination and last minute histrionics every other month, poor Donna Blackmon, AEA’s Operations Administrator gets to fly by the seat of her pants in Mark’s World every month. How lucky for Donna. If E-News goes back to bi-monthly in short time, you will know why.

Moisturize Your Skin with This Cool Beverage
While visiting a spa in Desert Hot Springs in southern California, AEA’s Executive Director, Angie Proctor, got hooked on putting cucumbers in water. Apparently, this is the fancy way they serve up water at spas. However, since returning to Florida, Angie has decided she prefers the cucumber/lemon water version. Lemons are plentiful in Florida and provide extra vitamin C and an enhanced diuretic effect.
So why on earth would you put cucumbers in water? According to a web article posted on that’sfit.com, cucumbers contain vitamin C and caffeic acid, two antioxidant nutrients that can help protect the skin from sun damage. Vitamin C boosts collagen and elastin, which helps keep skin looking vibrant while caffeic acid protects skin cells from UV radiation. Cucumbers also have natural anti-inflammatory properties and help to prevent water retention similar to lemons. Cucumbers also contain silica an essential component of healthy connective tissue.
Here’s a good recipe to use:
1 gallon cold water
2 -3 slices fresh lemon
2 -3 slices cucumbers
Directions:
Place all the ingredients into a pitcher and serve!
For a stronger taste, let the water sit in your refrigerator for an hour or more prior to serving.
Cheers!
And by the way, Angie said the property she stayed at had really nice, really warm pools. You might be hearing rumors of an AEA Regional Conference in Desert Hot Springs, California in early December.
